Bloomberg learned about the preparation of the United States in the event of a war between Russia and Ukraine

The United States proposed to the EU to work out measures in case of military action by Russia against Ukraine. The Kremlin said that Russia has no plans to “invade” – Moscow should only “be on the alert” during the US and NATO exercises in the Black Sea

The United States and its European allies are discussing possible retaliatory measures should Russia take military action against Ukraine. Bloomberg reported this with reference to sources.

Among possible measures, in particular, the imposition of sanctions against Moscow and assistance to Kiev in the field of security are being considered.

According to the agency, senior US officials raised the issue of working out a new package of measures in case of aggressive steps by Russia last week during contacts with their European colleagues. They said that the administration of US President Joe Biden is already developing various options for countering Moscow and wants to share data for a “ coordinated response. ''

Bloomberg sources did not specify what the possible sanctions would be aimed at. However, given the restrictions that already apply to a number of sectors of the Russian economy, the energy sector may be under attack, the agency believes.

A White House spokesman declined to comment on Bloomberg.

Since the end of October, the media began to report that Russia was building up its military forces on the border with Ukraine. In particular, The Washington Post wrote about this. And the Politico newspaper, in turn, published satellite images. They, presumably, capture the accumulation of tanks of the Russian army near the city of Yelnya in the Smolensk region, about 250 km from the border with Ukraine.

In Ukraine, it was initially said that they did not see the activity of the Russian military at the border. But later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Western partners informed him of the situation.

In particular, the United States noticed the strengthening of Russia's military activity near the Ukrainian border. In this regard, American officials warned European colleagues about the risk of a possible “ invasion, '' Bloomberg reported. At the same time, the agency's source in the Kremlin noted that Russia “ does not intend to start a war with Ukraine, but wants to show that it is ready to use force if necessary. ''

Officially, the Kremlin stated that such publications “ unnecessarily whipping up tension. '' According to President Vladimir Putin, such “ alarm data '' appear against the backdrop of unplanned military exercises by the United States and its NATO allies in the Black Sea, which pose a serious challenge to Russia. In particular, the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov recalled the “ active reconnaissance activities from the air of NATO aircraft '', in connection with which, according to him, Russia “ must be on the alert.
