Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, discussed gas supplies, the “grain deal”, the security situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, and Ukraine's violation of international humanitarian law, the Kremlin press service reported.

“The main attention was paid to the situation around Ukraine in the context of Russia's conduct of a special military operation. Vladimir Putin, in particular, drew the attention of the Federal Chancellor to the blatant violations of international humanitarian law by the Ukrainian side, the ongoing shelling of the cities of Donbass, as a result of which civilians are killed and civilian infrastructure is deliberately damaged, — The report says.

Also, the Russian president told Scholz that the Russian side provides the International Committee of the Red Cross with access to prisoners of war, while Kyiv does not.

< p>In the course of a conversation about the implementation of the “grain deal” concluded on July 22 in Istanbul, Putin “emphasized its package nature, clarified the essence of concerns in connection with the unbalanced geography of sea supplies of Ukrainian grain, only an insignificant part of which goes to the most needy countries.” “At the same time, there is no progress in removing obstacles to the export of Russian products and fertilizers,” — the press service said.

Speaking about the energy crisis in Europe, the Russian president stressed that Russia has been and remains a reliable supplier of energy resources, fulfilling all its contractual obligations. All interruptions, including those with the operation of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, according to Putin, are caused by anti-Russian sanctions. “Given the authorities of the respective countries cutting off gas supplies via Ukraine and Poland and refusing to put Nord Stream 2 into operation, attempts to shift the blame for problems in Europe’s energy supply to Russia look very cynical,” — noted the head of state.

According to the German side, the conversation between Putin and Scholz lasted 90 minutes. The website of the German government indicated that Scholz urged Putin “as soon as possible to find a diplomatic solution based on a ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.” The Chancellor also touched upon the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP, emphasizing the need to ensure its safety.

Speaking of the situation with food, Scholz emphasized the important role of the grain agreement under the auspices of the UN and urged his interlocutor “not to discredit the agreement and continue to implement it in full volume". The Chancellor and the President of Russia agreed to maintain contacts.

The last time Putin and Scholz spoke by phone was May 28 (on the same day, the Russian president also called his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron). The parties then discussed the state of affairs “on the negotiating track, which is frozen through the fault of Kyiv,” Putin confirmed the openness of the Russian side to the resumption of dialogue.

September 7, the German Chancellor spoke with Zelensky. Scholz assured the Ukrainian president that Berlin would not stop supporting Ukraine in military, political, financial and humanitarian terms. The leaders agreed that the safety and security of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is of paramount importance, and that IAEA recommendations play an important role.
