Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the parties to the conflict in Ukraine to resume dialogue and negotiations to resolve the situation without preconditions. He stated this at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine.

“Above all, we must adhere to dialogue and negotiations. The main priority for the parties is the resumption of dialogue without preconditions, — said the diplomat. He also called on both sides to discuss feasible options as one of the conditions for ending the conflict.

Wang Yi also met with the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell. The report on this meeting is published on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Wang Yi said that the situation in Ukraine shows an expanding and long-term trend, and the negative side effects are becoming more and more serious, and this does not suit China.

“It is extremely important to cease fire and stop. <…> China will not sit idly by, let alone add fuel to the fire, and will continue to play its part. At the same time, we support the European Union and major European countries in continuing to actively mediate and make every effort to achieve peace,— said Wang Yi.

Following President Vladimir Putin's September 21 address announcing partial mobilization, Beijing also called on the parties to dialogue.

“Calling on all parties for dialogue and consultations to end hostilities and find ways to address the legitimate security concerns of all parties,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.
